Hanover police have arrested and charged a man who allegedly broke into several cars at a local seniors residence on Monday morning.
Officers received a report on June 15 that vehicles parked at the Village Retirement Residence on 10th Street had been entered and rummaged through.
According to police, cameras observed a man walking through the parking lot checking for open doors, when he entered an unlocked vehicle and stole an amplifier valued at over $900.
The suspect was identified, but when officers attempted to arrest him, he reportedly ran away. Shortly after he was found hiding in bushes on 12th Street, where he was taken into custody after a brief struggle.
The 31-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with charged with theft under $5,000 and resisting arrest. Police said the stolen property was recovered.
The Hanover Police Service reminds residents to remove valuables from their vehicles and ensure they are locked while unattended.
