The Wellness and Recovery Centre in Owen Sound run by Brightshores Health System has been recognized with a national award of excellence.
A press release from Brightshores shares that the 2026 National Award of Excellence in Mental Health and Addictions Quality Improvement was awarded to the Owen Sound treatment centre by the Canadian College of Health Leaders on June 14 in Montreal.
The prestigious award celebrates a "first-in-Ontario model which combines stable housing and integrated care for individuals with complex needs, and is helping inform system-level improvements in the province," according to the press release.
With wraparound services under one roof for every step of the recovery journey, the centre delivers short and long-term programming, including crisis support, addictions treatment, daily drop-in clinics and other supports, since opening in 2024.
The centre has contributed to a reduction in emergency department visits after discharging patients, helping to improve the efficiency of the overall local healthcare system, according to Brightshores.
"This recognition reflects the dedication of our staff, physicians, peer workers, donors, community partners, clients and families whose compassion, courage and commitment made this work possible," said Beth Morris, VP, Clinical Programs & Quality, Chief Nursing Executive. "We are grateful to the Canadian College of Health Leaders for honouring what we’ve built together — a coordinated, recovery-focused model that cares for the whole person, supporting mental, physical, emotional and spiritual well-being."
