Residents of Grey Highlands are getting some positive news following the August fire at the Markdale Arena.
The municipality has announced Markdale Hall will reopen for rentals and community events starting January 2, 2026. The space has been closed since the August 3 fire and is a key gathering place for celebrations and local programs.
“We are pleased to announce that progress is underway and that the Markdale Hall will reopen for rentals and community events starting January 2, 2026,” the municipality stated.
Residents and organizations looking to book the hall for upcoming events can do so by visiting greyhighlands.ca/halls, emailing facilities@greyhighlands.ca, or calling 519-986-2811 ext. 108.
The arena, however, remains under assessment as engineers determine the next steps. The municipality acknowledges the challenges the fire has caused and extends thanks to residents, partners, and user groups for their patience during this time.
“We understand the importance of this facility and will share updates as soon as new information becomes available,” the municipality said, noting appreciation for user groups who have adapted by using alternate ice locations.
Officials reaffirm the municipality’s commitment to restoring services and ensuring the Centre Grey Recreation Complex continues to serve as a hub for recreation and community life.
“Your continued support and understanding are appreciated as we move forward,” they added.
With Markdale Hall reopening early in the new year, Grey Highlands residents can look forward to resuming community activities while the arena’s future is carefully evaluated.
