Families in Owen Sound will have a chance to welcome the New Year early with an afternoon packed full of activities as the city revives its popular New Year’s Eve Family Celebration.
The City of Owen Sound, in partnership with the YMCA Bruce Grey Owen Sound, is hosting the free community event on Wednesday, December 31, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre. While admission is free, donations at the door are welcome.
Public skating will be available on both ice pads from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the YMCA will offer an open swim during the same time period. The Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library will also be on site, inviting children to take part in button-making activities.
Additional entertainment throughout the afternoon includes crafts, a New Year’s themed Instabooth, stilt walking, balloon creations and face painting, providing a wide range of options for families to enjoy together.
Sponsors Shankar Law, Pizzaville and Coca-Cola support the event. Pizzaville will be serving pizza, with donations directed to Oshare for those who wish to contribute.
The celebration takes place at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre, located at 700 10th Street East. Attendees should note that the YMCA pool operates with bather capacity limits, which may result in short wait times, and all regular aquatics policies remain in effect. The facility is also a nut-aware environment.
More information, including activity schedules and updates, is available on the City of Owen Sound’s New Year’s Eve website.
