Environment Canada is the latest to issue a cold warning in response to the bone chilling temperatures.
In the alert issued for Sarnia-Lambton on Friday morning, forecasters said the bitterly cold conditions will persist through Friday and into Saturday morning, with wind chills near -30 C to minus -33 C.
Daytime temperatures will remain cold with brisk winds gusting up to 50 kilometres per hour, followed by falling temperatures Friday evening.
Meteorologists said extreme cold puts everyone at risk.
We're being told to watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes. Anyone heading outside is encouraged to cover up, as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill.
Forecasters said it is a good idea to check on older family, friends and neighbours.
They also advise that if it's too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside.
Outdoor workers are encouraged to take regularly scheduled breaks to warm up.
Lambton County’s medical officer of health issued a cold weather alert on Thursday, in advance of the plummeting temperatures.
