Whiteout conditions have been identified as a contributing factor in a five-vehicle crash in the Township of Southgate that sent a snow plow operator to hospital.
According to Grey Bruce OPP, a snow plow and another vehicle initially collided on Grey Road 14 between Southgate Road 3 and Highway 89 around 1:15 p.m. on Thursday.
While outside of his vehicle surveying the damage, the plow operator was hit by another vehicle which caused a secondary crash.
The plow operator was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, while four other people suffered minor injuries.
The stretch of Grey Road 14 was closed for several hours. It was reopened late Friday morning.
"Hazardous road conditions continue to impact travel across the region," said police. "Motorists are advised to slow down, increase following distance, and remain alert for sudden changes in visibility and traction. Please exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve."
