The Owen Sound Attack's new ownership group has made it's mark on the team, hiring reportedly the youngest head coach in the league's history.
Keenan Reynolds was announced as the Attack's new head coach on Wednesday.
The hiring came just one day after Governor and President Tyler Nother parted ways with previous coach Scott Wray.
Reynolds was a fourth-round pick of the Attack in the 2014 draft and played 62 games for the squad. His playing career ended in 2022 and he then collected four seasons of junior hockey coaching experience, including stops with the Nepean Raiders and Acadie-Bathurst Titan.
"I am honoured and excited to be given this opportunity with the Owen Sound Attack," said Reynolds. "Becoming a head coach in the Ontario Hockey League has been a long-time goal of mine, and to do so with the organization where I began my OHL career as a player is incredibly humbling. I look forward to working alongside Tyler Nother to continue building an organization that provides players with the best possible environment to develop as students, high-performance athletes, and future leaders in our communities."
Reynolds was most recently an assistant coach with the Erie Otters. The Otters said he was instrumental in the development of forwards like Michael Dec and Tyler Cooper.
He just turned 28 in March, making him the youngest coach currently in the league and one of the youngest ever to be hired.
"When we began our search, we were looking for a teacher, communicator, and leader with a clear vision for player development and team culture," said Nother. "Keenan stood out throughout the interview process with his passion, preparation, and modern approach to coaching. His understanding of today’s players and his vision for the future of our organization made this an easy decision."
In his introductory news conference at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre, Reynolds said he wanted the Attack to be one of the premier developmental organizations in junior hockey, with the ultimate goal of bringing a championship to town.
"I’m thrilled to welcome Keenan as our new head coach," said Attack Captain Pierce Mbuyi. "I had a great conversation with him over lunch yesterday, and I have a lot of confidence in his vision and plan to build a winning culture here in Owen Sound."
The Attack went 27-32-9 last season and were swept by the Flint Firebirds in the first round of the playoffs.
