Windsor's Isaac Brogan won't be returning as the winner of the National Scripps Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C., but the grade 8 student from Marantha Christian Academy still made it to the ninth round before elimination.
Brogan, who won the WFCU Credit Union Scripps Spelling Bee in Windsor last March, was eliminated on the word "resue."
Toronto's Arshan Shahrier was also eliminated in the 9th round, and Iris Sharmaguo of Halifax ended her run in the 5th.
This was both Brogan and Shahriar's third time at the competition.
The winner, according to Reuters, was 14-year-old Shrey Parikh of Rancho Cucamonga, California, who won $50,000. Parikh's winning word was "bromocriptine."
