Property owners in Kincardine who have not completed a mandatory water meter replacement are now being charged four times the regular water rate.
The municipality says the deadline to comply with the replacement program has passed and the increased charge is being applied under its Water Rates and Fees By-law.
"This increased rate will remain in effect until the required water meter replacement has been completed," the municipality said in a notice.
The municipality did not say how many properties are currently subject to the higher rate or what the average increase will mean for an affected water bill.
Water meter installations are being completed by KTI Utility Services, the municipality’s contracted provider.
Two final appointment periods have been scheduled from August 31 to September 4 and from October 19 to October 30.
"Once your new water meter has been installed, the increased water rate will no longer apply," the municipality said.
Appointments are expected to take approximately 40 minutes, and someone aged 18 or older must be present during the installation.
Appointments can be booked online through the KTI Utility Services appointment website or by calling 1-833-543-8807.
