The Bruce County Public Library has launched what it is calling a reimagined early literacy program.
Read and Play Every Day is a free reading program that encourages families to build strong reading habits through daily reading and play-based activities. Its goal is to help parents nurture their child's early literacy development from birth to age five. Participants earn points by reading books and completing simple, age-appropriate activities based on five early literacy practices - read, write, talk, sing, and play. Progress can be tracked using the Beanstack app with incentives including colouring books and Play-Doh up for grabs.
"Preparing children to read begins long before they enter school," said Digital Initiative Coordinator Jeremy Clark. "Read and Play Every Day supports families in building strong language skills. By reading, talking, singing, playing, and writing together, caregivers help lay the foundation for lifelong learning and school success."
The program is designed to be flexible so it easily fits into family routines and features five age-based reading challenges that grow with a child’s development.
The launch of Read and Play Every Day coincided with Family Literacy Day.
Families can register for the program through the Beanstack app or at their local library branch.
