The Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre has launched a new virtual museum platform, giving the public online access to its galleries and exhibits through a partnership with Georgian College.
The interactive experience allows users to explore 3D galleries, view featured artifacts, and engage with interpretive content highlighting Bruce County’s history, culture, and natural heritage. The museum says the platform is designed to complement in-person visits while improving accessibility for people who may not be able to visit physically.
Georgian College helped develop the platform using Matterport technology. Rob Theriault, Georgian College’s Immersive Technology Manager, says the project shows how digital tools can broaden access. "It’s a great example of how technology can open doors; making local history and culture easier to explore, learn from and share, no matter where you are," he said.
Museum Director Cathy McGirr says the partnership helps extend the museum’s reach. "It allows residents, educators, students, and visitors to connect with our collections and stories in a flexible, engaging way, while inspiring future in-person visits," she said.
The virtual museum is now live at brucemuseum.ca, with additional features, including expanded galleries and video content, expected later this year.
