Shallow Lake arena to host charity hockey and polar plunge

A cold dip for a warm cause will return to Georgian Bluffs this March.

The 2026 Polar Plunge in support of Special Olympics Ontario will take place Saturday, March 7 at the Shallow Lake Arena.

Grey Bruce OPP Constable Kody Lyons says the event is a fun way for the community to come together while supporting Special Olympics athletes across the province.

"The polar plunge is a signature fundraising event for Special Olympics Ontario, helping to provide year-round sports programs, competitions, and opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities" added Lyons. "Every plunge, pledge, and donation directly supports these programs."

Residents, businesses, and service clubs are encouraged to form teams, issue challenges, and help make this year’s plunge the biggest yet.

"This year's event offers even more ways for the community to get involved," shared Lyons. "Before the plunge begins, community members are invited to watch the Grey Bruce OPP and the Intertownship Fire Department face off in a Charity Hockey Game at the Shallow Lake Arena. Puck drops at 1 p.m."

Registration for The Polar Plunge also starts at 1 p.m., with the icy dip starting at 2 p.m. The Shallow Lake Arena is located 550 Princess Street.
