Wallaceburg man delivers after long, hot journey to help kids with cancer

A Wallaceburg man is on his way back home after a long trek to raise awareness and money for kids battling cancer.

Don Wells, a 77-year-old cancer survivor, rode a motor scooter 700 kilometres this week from Walpole Island to Parliament Hill in Ottawa as part of Don's Journey of Hope for Cancer.

Wells told CK News Today the tally is still ongoing, but he believes approximately $6,300 was raised for Make-A-Wish Foundation.

He said at one point the motor scooters had to be pulled off the road because of the extreme heat.

Wells has said before that the journey he was on would be his last one, but noted this journey is definitely his last.

He has been diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer.

Wells said he was inspired to embark on this trek while completing radiation therapy in London and watching what the children had to go through.
