Chatham business owner eyeing spot on CK's council

A small business owner is running in Chatham-Kent's (CK) upcoming municipal election.

Andrea Palmer is running to be one of two Ward 1 Councillors, representing communities like Tilbury, Wheatley, and Merlin. She currently lives in Merlin, but runs a second-hand store in Chatham.

Palmer told CK News Today her desire to run stems from what she believes is a lack of equality amongst communities across CK.

"I just feel that since the amalgamation, many of the decisions have been made to benefit the city of Chatham, and the surrounding areas seem to come as an afterthought," she said.

If elected, Palmer explained that she would be a voice for residents. Specifically, she would support what the majority of the population wants.

"There's a lot of talk where people aren't happy, but a decision is made to the opposite. I would like to bring forth everybody's opinion and to fight for what they want," said Palmer.

When asked why people should vote for her, Palmer was quick to highlight her experience running a small business.

"I don't feel that being a Councillor is any different than providing excellent customer service. The constituents are customers, and they pay the salary," she added.

CK's election will be on October 26, 2026.
