Improved ambulance service for north CK

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent (CK) has signed an ambulance cross-border mutual aid agreement with Lambton County.

The agreement ensures that the closest available ambulance can respond to emergencies regardless of municipal borders.

An information report going to CK council on Monday night stated that all emergency responses will stay the same, except for urgent and life threatening calls that are more than 45 minutes away. They will be dispatched to the closest, most appropriate available ambulance, regardless of the geographical location along the borderline.

CK EMS will continue to be the primary responders for all calls on Walpole Island First Nation, regardless of priority, wrote CK Fire and Rescue officials.

Emergency coverage and urgent responses outside of the service municipality will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

"On-duty Management for Lambton County EMS and Medavie Chatham-Kent EMS will be consulted when this is being requested by the Wallaceburg Central Ambulance Communications Centre," fire officials said.

The cross-border coverage agreement will be automatically renewed each year, unless it's terminated.

The agreement will also be reviewed every year.

Chatham-Kent and Essex County also have a cross border ambulance mutual aid agreement that went into affect in 2022.
