Police investigate arson at Windsor playground

Windsor police are investigating an arson at a South Walkerville playground.

Police report emergency services were called to the municipal park on Parent Avenue near Lens Avenue just after 11 p.m. Thursday. By the time Windsor Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene, the playground equipment was fully engulfed in flames and sustained significant damage.

The Windsor Police Arson Unit determined the fire was intentionally set using a petroleum-based accelerant.

There were no injuries reported. The blaze caused around $200,000 in damage.

Investigators ask residents and business owners in the neighbourhood to review their surveillance footage between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on July 2 for possible evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Windsor Police Arson Unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4330.
