Windsor Regional Hospital will start composting this spring.
Project Green will separate organic waste from patient meals and other retail food services.
“Implementing this composting program is an important step forward for our hospital. It allows us to reduce what we send to the landfill while contributing to a healthier environment for our patients and community,” said WRH Environmental Services Manager Derrick Wigle. "By composting today, we’re helping create a healthier tomorrow for our patients and our community.”
Compost bins will be placed across both campuses in key locations like the food and nutrition, Tim Hortons locations, and the Daily Grill.
Staff will be encouraged to separate compostable materials such as food scraps, coffee grounds, and other organic waste from regular garbage and recyclables.
The composting program will begin on May 1.
