Charges have been laid after a dog and its owner were injured during an incident involving two dogs in Essex.
Essex County OPP say officers were called to Laird Avenue on January 4 following reports of two dogs that were attacking another dog and its owner.
The victim incurred minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. Police say both the owner and the dog suffered injuries, but none were considered life-threatening.
As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old Essex resident has been charged under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act. The charges include two counts of failing to prevent a dog from biting or attacking a person or another domestic animal.
The accused is scheduled to appear in a Windsor court at a later date.
In the wake of the incident, Essex County OPP are reminding dog owners to take reasonable steps to prevent their dogs from biting or attacking people or other animals, or from acting in a way that could put public safety at risk.
Police also note that dog owners can be held legally responsible if their dog injures someone or another animal.
