The Grey Bruce Health Coalition (GBHC) will host a town hall in Owen Sound on Wednesday, November 4 regarding growing concerns over private healthcare.
A media release from the GBHC states that "with the increasing establishment of private health care services in some provinces and the threat that this trend will replace our treasured universal health care system across the country, Health Coalitions throughout Canada are coming together to send an urgent, unified message to the federal government."
The town hall will be from 7-9 p.m. in the Shore Room at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Centre, and will feature a number of healthcare experts sharing information on local healthcare and the threat of privatization.
The GBHC said it and other health coalitions across Canada are urging Prime Minister Mark Carney and Health Minister Marjorie Michel to "fulfil their responsibility to enforce the Canada Health Act and to protect Canada’s universal, single-payer, public Medicare system with health care for Canadians that is accessible and based on need, not the ability to pay."
Health coalitions from across Canada and other community organizations are planning to take this message directly to Ottawa on November 27 and 28.
