Residents of South Bruce Peninsula will soon have the opportunity to view and provide input on updated plans for Wiarton’s waterfront as local officials prepare for an upcoming public consultation.
The Town of South Bruce Peninsula will host its second community open house for the Bluewater Park and Adjacent Facilities Master Plan on Tuesday, November 3rd, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wiarton Arena. The drop-in session follows a preliminary public consultation phase and aims to unveil new draft concepts designed to reshape the park and surrounding municipal facilities.
According to project details released by the municipality, the overarching goal of the initiative is to position the waterfront as "a vital community hub and regional destination".
To achieve that vision, planners are focusing on four key priorities informed by earlier community feedback.
The first objective, titled "A New Community Hub," targets the seamless integration of nearby municipal buildings - such as the Wiarton Arena, the local library, and the new Town Hall - with the adjacent beach and park grounds to enhance pedestrian flow, parking, and overall accessibility.
The remaining priorities highlight functional and recreational enhancements across the property. Under "Campground Optimization," municipal planners intend to evaluate the existing layout to ensure the area achieves its highest and best use.
Meanwhile, "A Variety of Activities" focuses on upgrading more than 15 individual park assets - including pathways, playgrounds, and sports facilities - alongside a ten-year financial forecast to guide future maintenance.
Lastly, "Enhancing Our Shoreline" aims to expand beach access while protecting the surrounding aquatic environment and water quality.
For community members unable to attend the in-person event at the arena, the municipality will publish the draft concepts and a feedback survey online, which will remain open for public review through November 17.
