The Township of Wellington North has purchased the former County works yard in Arthur from Wellington County.
The purchase was made public in a press release from Wellington North on Thursday. According to that release, the property, located at 399 Eliza Street in Arthur, became surplus to the County’s requirements with the opening of the new Arthur Garage on Wellington Road 109 in May of 2025.
Under the purchase and sale agreement, the Township will acquire the property for $450,000. The site will continue to be used as an operations yard for the next few years as staff work out long-term facility needs of both Arthur and Mount Forest.
After initial site improvements, the goal is to use the property during the 2026/27 winter season, especially for the storing of critical equipment and vehicles like snowplows.
According to the press release from Wellington North, the purchase and use of the site will "improve current service delivery and create opportunity for the Township to plan for future community needs, as well."
