A 31-year-old is facing charges after a construction worker was threatened while working on a Markdale road earlier this week.
Grey Bruce OPP were called about the incident on Toronto Street shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Monday. According to police, the construction flagger was directing traffic in the active construction zone when a driver who had been stopped became increasingly agitated with the wait.
The driver allegedly got out of their vehicle multiple times to complain about the delay.
"During the interactions, the individual's behaviour escalated, and threats of harm were directed toward the flag person," police said.
A 31-year-old from Brampton is charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and obstructing a peace officer. The accused is scheduled to appear in Owen Sound court in relation to the charges on December 10.
Police are asking drivers to remain patient in construction zones and to obey directions from traffic control workers.
"The Grey Bruce OPP reminds motorists that delays in construction zones can be frustrating; however, traffic control personnel are present to protect the safety of construction workers, motorists, pedestrians, and all other road users," police said. "Threatening, intimidating, or harassing workers who are carrying out their duties is unacceptable and may result in criminal charges."
