The unemployment rate in Midwestern Ontario dropped in August to land at just four per cent.
That's according to the latest numbers from the Four County Labour Market Planning Board, which covers data in the Stratford to Bruce Peninsula Economic Region, spanning Bruce, Grey, Huron, and Perth counties.
In August, unemployment dropped by one percentage point per cent to land at and even four per cent regionally. The provincial unemployment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to 7.3 per cent, both unadjusted for seasonality. Statistics Canada shared in its jobs announcement on Friday that the national unemployment rate is at 6.4 per cent.
The Stratford to Bruce Peninsula Economic Region has the lowest unemployment rate in the province. Total employment in the region fell by 1,100 jobs to 166,900, with losses in both full-time employment (600 jobs) and part-time employment (500 jobs). The job losses were offset by a drop of 2,900 in the size of the labour force, leading to the decrease in the unemployment rate.
