Grey Bruce Public Health says that Kelso Beach at Nawash Park in Owen Sound remains posted as unsafe for swimming heading into the long weekend.
The Health Unit first issued an advisory for the water last week. New water samples were taken on Thursday and still showed that bacterial levels exceed Ontario Ministry of Health standards.
"As the forecast is calling for warm weather and sunny skies for this last long weekend of summer, we wanted to remind residents and visitors that this no-swim advisory remains in place," said Senior Public Health Manager Andrew Barton in a media release.
He noted that recent rainfall is likely a contributing factor to the high bacteria levels at Kelso Beach.
The beach posting will remain in effect until samples show levels have returned to within the acceptable range. New samples will be taken on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
The Health Unit says the splash pad at the park is not impacted by this advisory as it is only connected to municipal water.
