Alleged Hanover credit card thief caught in Kitchener

A suspect that allegedly stole a credit card from a Hanover vehicle last month was arrested in Kitchener on Thursday.

On April 29 the Hanover Police Service received reports of overnight thefts from vehicles on 11th and 17th Avenue. One of the items stolen was a credit card that was later used by a man to purchase items.

Police said through investigation, they identified the suspect as a 40-year-old male of no fixed address, who has ties to Kitchener, Guelph and the Grey-Bruce region.

On May 28 was arrested by the Waterloo Regional Police Service and returned to Hanover.

The man faces charges including theft under $5,000, unlawful use of a credit card, fraud under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime.

Police said the investigation determined the suspect checked other vehicles along his path, and remind everyone to lock their vehicles, outbuildings and garages at night and store valuables out of plain sight.
