Cyclist suffers life-threatening injuries in crash west of Mount Forest

An 18-year-old cyclist had to be airlifted to hospital after a crash on Highway 89 just west of Mount Forest on Sunday afternoon.

According to Wellington OPP, an SUV collided with the cyclist on the stretch of highway between O'Dwyers Road and Wellington Road 6 around 2:30 p.m.

The cyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital before being airlifted to another hospital. The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital as a pre-caution.

The section of Highway 89 was closed for several hours while investigators were on the scene. It reopened around 11 p.m.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-camera footage that could assist with the investigation to call them at 1-888-310-1122.
