Wellington County OPP are reminding the public not to mess with traffic control measures, after barricades at a Mapleton construction site were tampered with over the weekend.
Police said they received a report on May 10, around 5:45 a.m., that barricades marking an unsafe bridge on Sideroad 6, just off Wellington Road 109, were found disturbed.
The structure is being rebuilt this spring, after the old truss bridge was found to have extensive deterioration. The road was closed to through traffic on April 9, until further notice.
Mapletown Township included $1.65 million in this year's capital budget to replace the bridge.
Wellington County OPP reminds the public that moving, tampering with, or removing road‑closure signs, barricades, or other traffic‑control devices may result in charges.
Police say such actions also create a serious safety risk for all road users.
Anyone with information regarding interference at road‑closure sites is urged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
