North Huron to relocate Alice Munro Literary Garden

The Alice Munro Literary Garden in Wingham will be moved down the road as the municipality looks to sell the land its currently located on.

Council for the Township of North Huron approved a recommendation from staff to relocate the garden to Cruikshank Park.

The exact location will be determined in collaboration with the Wingham and District Horticultural Society.

The garden has sat next to the former museum, at 273 Josephine Street, since 2002. Council declared the land surplus last month, the first step in an attempt to sell the property.

The Township opted not to make changes to the literary garden's name despite revelations in 2024 that the author remained with her husband after learning he sexually abused her daughter.
