A familiar face from the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board is making the switch to the public board.
Bluewater District School Board has announced Papy Mukenge as its new superintendent of education, effective August 1.
"The depth and diversity of experience and expertise [Mukenge] brings to the table will be invaluable, particularly in the equity and Indigenous Education portfolios that will fall under his purview," Director of Education AJ Keene said in a statement. "We look forward to the addition of his strong and proven leadership and varied professional insight."
Mukenge has more than 20 years of experience in education across Ontario and internationally. He started his teaching career with the Waterloo Catholic District School Board and also served as principal of the Canadian International School of Egypt and middle school principal at Haven of Peace Academy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
He relocated to Bruce County in 2017 with his wife and three children and has spent most of the past decade serving as vice-principal, principal, and most recently acting superintendent of education with the Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board.
"It is an honour to join Bluewater District School Board and to serve its students, staff, families, and communities. I believe that public education plays a vital role in advancing equity, fostering inclusion, and supporting the success and well-being of every learner," said Mukenge. "I look forward to building on the strong foundation within Bluewater to support student achievement, promote well-being, and ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive."
In his new role, Mukenge will oversee an area of schools and manage a portfolio of system duties, the board said.
