20 charges laid in commercial vehicle safety blitz in Perth South

A two-day crackdown on unsafe commercial vehicles in Perth South saw 20 charges laid.

Stratford police and the Ministry of Transportation Ontario teamed up to conduct the safety blitz on Perth Road 113 and Perth Line 26 on April 20 and 21.

"These enforcement initiatives are an important part of keeping our roads safe and ensuring compliance with provincial regulations," police said.

The bulk of the charges, 12 in total, were for overweight axles during a reduced load period. Two vehicles were stopped for speeding and having an insecure load. There was one charge each for an overweight vehicle violating a permit, an expired permit, failure to display the annual inspection sheet, and failure to comply with emissions regulations.

Three inspected vehicles were also placed out of service and two sets of license plates were removed after the vehicle status was transferred to unfit.
