Residents and visitors alike will be able to explore some of Stratford's most cherished buildings this weekend.
Doors Open Stratford will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Marking its 25th season, the annual heritage and tourism initiative is run in partnership with the City of Stratford, Destination Stratford, and Doors Open Ontario.
"Doors Open Stratford is a free invitation to step inside spaces that aren't always open to the public or always free to visit, and to hear the stories of our community," said Alanna Bowes, the city's culture, sport and sponsorship coordinator. "It’s not only about opening doors, but about sharing the history, culture, and voices behind them. We invite everyone to come join the experience."
Sites participating in this year's event include the Perth County Courthouse on Huron Street, Gallery Stratford on Romeo Street South, The Queen's Cue Stratford Hotel on Ontario Street, The Stratford Perth Museum on Huron Road, Stratford City Hall, The Blowes Building on Wellington Street, and Jobsite Brewing Co. on Cambria Street.
While those interested in Doors Open Stratford can visit the sites any time during operating hours, scheduled walking tours starting at City Hall will also be offered throughout the weekend.
After taking in the historic sites during the day, the public can relax with two Doors Open After Dark events at night. A Night of Music and Community will be held at Copperlight with live entertainment and an optional three-course dinner. The other after dark event is a special screening inside City Hall by the Stratford Film Festival of the Canadian documentary "You Are Here: A Come from Away Story."
