The International Plowing Match in Bruce County this September will make even more guests feel at home, with new amenities for campers.
The IPM says 500 sites at the RV Park on the grounds will have hydroelectric service thanks to Bruce Power.
Director on the IPM Planning Committee Bill Walker said this initiative couldn't have gone ahead without the company.
"I want to give a huge shoutout to James Scongack, COO at Bruce Power," said Walker. "He heard that we were struggling a little bit and wondering how to make it happen and he stepped forward and said, 'Bill we'll make it happen.' All the credit goes to him and the local committee taking care of the campground, they've put in a ton of time and effort to make sure it's planned well and will be accomodating to those visiting Bruce County."
The IPM will be coming to Bruce County for a fourth time in its history. It will also mark the 50th anniversary of the first time Walkerton hosted the event in 1976.
The five-day event will run from September 22 to 26.
Walker said the booking for campsites was just launched and already they're going fast.
"I heard last week, we're already over 140 campsites that have been registered, and that was within a week of opening the site," he said. "I think there were people waiting to see whether we were going to have hydro or not. I think it's going to be like we always have in Bruce County and we're going to be filled to the rafters, it will be a full campground for sure."
Planning and organizing for the event is still ongoing, but Walker said by May the committee should be meeting once a week for fine-tuning.
"Our goal is to make this the most successful, not just in Bruce County, but in IPM history," he said. "We're very confident it's going to be that and a crowd pleaser for all involved."
Walker said the deadline is fast approaching for businesses looking to sponsor the event, as well as get expos lined up. They're also looking for volunterr help. Those interested can find all the updates on 2026 IPM website.
