An encounter with an OPP canine officer that sent a man in Meaford to hospital is being probed by the province's police watchdog.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which investigates cases of serious injury, death, gunfire, and sexual assault involving police, invoked its mandate following the incident early Thursday.
Grey Bruce OPP had been called to a Meaford home for a disturbance just before 11 p.m. on Wednesday. One person took off from the scene before officers arrived. That led police to search the area which ended around 2 a.m. when a police dog "gripped" a suspect during the arrest.
The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The SIU was notified and will send investigators to the area.
