Bruce C Project management partnership announced

Bruce Power is advancing early-stage planning work for a potential nuclear expansion by bringing in a project management partner to support the next phase of its Bruce C initiative.

The company has retained Nuclear Promise X to provide project management and technical advisory services as it continues to assess the feasibility of expanding its nuclear fleet. The work will include coordinating planning activities, supporting feasibility studies, assisting with the Impact Assessment process, and helping align technical, regulatory, and stakeholder input as the project moves forward.

"Ontario’s demand for clean electricity is growing rapidly, and Bruce C represents a critical option for the Province’s long-term energy planning," said Laurent Seigle, Executive Vice-President, Projects, Bruce Power. "NPX brings both the right capability as well as the innovative mindset we need, and we look forward to working together as we advance this next phase of evaluation."

Bruce Power says the potential expansion is part of its broader effort to support Ontario’s growing electricity needs while continuing to deliver clean and reliable power.

NPX is also working in partnership with Makwa Development, a First Nation-owned and operated company that specializes in construction, renovation, vegetation management, staff augmentation, and project coordination. The company is owned by members of the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation, and brings local roots and community-focused experience to the project.

"Makwa Development is proud to partner with NPX on this important initiative," said Scott Lee, President of Makwa Development. "This work reflects our commitment to supporting responsible development in our territory and creating meaningful opportunities for our community."

NPX says its role will be to help guide the early stages of the project while supporting a collaborative approach that includes technical expertise, community engagement, and Indigenous participation.

"Bruce Power continues to demonstrate leadership in planning responsibly for Ontario’s energy future," said Bharath Nangia, Chief Executive Officer, Nuclear Promise X. "We think this is perhaps the most important project in Ontario and Canada, and we are proud to serve as the Project Management partner for Bruce C."

The partners say the collaboration is designed to ensure a thoughtful and coordinated approach as Ontario evaluates the possibility of expanding nuclear generation at the Bruce site, with a focus on long-term energy planning and sustainable development.
