Brockton's mayor is expressing his concerns for residents in Pinkerton.
The area experienced extensive flooding over the weekend due to a breach of a privately owned dyke.
“I have reached out to residents in Pinkerton expressing my concerns for them in this distressing time," said Mayor Chris Peabody. "I am grateful for the support of various agencies in coordinating a timely response.”
Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority initially issued a flood watch for the area on Friday afternoon as water surged over the banks of the Teeswater River. Bruce Road 15 between Bruce Road 3 and Bruce Road 20 is closed to all vehicles including emergency responders due to the flooding. Video posted by the County of Bruce showed water rushing over the road and at least one home surrounded.
Sandbagging efforts to minimize further damage to certain properties in Pinkerton have taken place and residents are strongly advised to avoid the area.
The Municipality of Brockton, in coordination with external agencies, including the County of Bruce, Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority, and the Ministry of Natural Resources, is providing enhanced monitoring of the affected properties.
Residents are advised to monitor the municipality's website, Brockton.ca, for the latest updates.
