OPP warn motorists about dangers of bypassing road closures

Perth County OPP are reminding motorists that road closures are not optional and must be respected.

The OPP says recent incidents have involved drivers ignoring closures put in place due to weather, flooding, collisions, downed hydro lines, and other hazardous conditions. Officials warn that bypassing barricades puts drivers, passengers, first responders, and road crews at risk.

Police can lay charges under the Highway Traffic Act for entering a closed roadway, and motorists could also face financial and insurance consequences.

Residents are encouraged to check road conditions through Ontario 511 or local municipal services and to follow updates from the OPP and municipal authorities during severe weather events.
