Lake effect snow to hit midwestern Ontario Wednesday

Midwestern Ontarians will have a busy afternoon and evening shoveling and snow blowing.

Snow squalls, expected to develop off Lake Huron late Wednesday morning, will drop another 10 to 20 centimetres of snow on top of what fell late Tuesday. According to Environment Canada, snowfall totals will vary greatly as snow squalls bands are expected to shift considerably.

A yellow-level snow squall watch has been upgraded to a yellow-level snow squall warning for the entire region.

Visibility will be near zero at times due to the snow and blowing snow from strong winds, which will gust up to 60 kilometres an hour.

Drivers are being told roads could become hazardous to navigate due to the rapid accumulating snow and should consider rescheduling all non-essential travel.

All school buses in north Wellington County were cancelled for the day, as were many in Grey-Bruce and some in Huron-Perth. The full list can be found by clicking here.

The snow squalls will come to an end as winds weaken Wednesday night, Environment Canada said.
