Maltais wins Canada's first medal at Milano Cortina Games

Canada has its first medal of the 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

Valerie Maltais won a bronze in the women’s 3000 metre race on the long track Saturday morning.

The Quebec speed skater won her first individual medal at the Olympics with a time of 3:56.93.

Italian Francesca Lollobrigida won gold, with an Olympic record setting time of 3:54.28. Norway's Ragne Wiklund collected silver.

Canada's first medal at the 2022 Beijing Games also came in this race, won by Isabelle Weidemann, who finished fifth in this year's event.
