Bruce Peninsula could get another 5 to 15 cm of snow

Bruce Peninsula residents could start the weekend with more shoveling and snow blowing to do.

Lake enhanced snow, expected to hit the area Friday afternoon and continue into Saturday morning, could bring an additional 5 to 15 centimetres of snowfall just a day after a winter storm moved through the region.

A yellow-level snowfall warning is in effect for the Bruce Pensinsula, Sauble Beach, and Tobermory area.

"A north-south oriented snow band is expected to develop and bring the heaviest snowfall during the late afternoon to early evening period," Environment Canada said in a statement. "Travel will likely be challenging. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow."

It is anticipated northern sections of the region will receive higher amounts of snow, near 15 centimetres.

For those who will be tasked with cleaning up the snowy mess, OPP are reminding them not to push snow out onto the road.

Under the Highway Traffic Act, it is illegal to deposit snow or ice on a roadway as it creates a hazard for drivers. Additionally, it slows down road clearing operations as public works crews are then forced to re-clear areas that have already been plowed, OPP said.

Piling snow on the side of the road is also a no-no as the large piles can obstruct the line of sight for both drivers and pedestrians.

Instead, police recommend those removing snow from driveways and walkways pile it on their own property, being sure to keep fire hydrants clear and avoid blocking curbs. Keeping fire hydrants clear of snow allows emergency crews to access them quickly in an emergency, while a clear curb leaves space for garbage and recycling crews to collect bins without having to climb on snowbanks.
