Hanover Hospital receives top national accreditation for fourth time

Hanover and District Hospital has once again received accreditation with exemplary standing from Accreditation Canada, marking the fourth consecutive time the hospital has achieved the organization’s highest possible designation.

The designation recognizes health-care organizations that exceed national standards in areas such as patient safety, quality of care, leadership, governance, and continuous improvement.

Hospital officials say earning exemplary status four times in a row places Hanover and District Hospital among a small number of hospitals across the country with sustained performance at that level.

"Achieving Exemplary status for the fourth consecutive time is an incredible accomplishment and a true reflection of the dedication and resilience of our staff, physicians, and volunteers," said Dana Howes, president and CEO of Hanover and District Hospital. "To earn this recognition while navigating increased pressures and ongoing operational changes across our local health system speaks volumes about the strength of our teams and their unwavering commitment to patient safety, quality, and providing exceptional care to our community."

The achievement comes as the hospital continues to manage increased patient volumes and added pressures linked to operational changes and closures at nearby facilities.

Accreditation Canada surveyors highlighted the hospital’s strong culture of safety, patient-centred approach, teamwork across disciplines, and focus on continuous quality improvement. The accreditation process includes on-site assessments, staff engagement, and reviews based on evidence-based national standards.

"This recognition reinforces that even in times of challenge and change, HDH continues to deliver safe, high-quality care close to home," Howes added. "We are incredibly proud of our team and grateful to our community for their continued trust and support."

Hospital officials say Hanover and District Hospital remains focused on building on this foundation as it responds to evolving community needs and broader health system demands.
