Students in Grey and Bruce counties are being invited to put into words what "home" means to them, and help build homes for local families at the same time.
Habitat for Humanity Canada’s annual Meaning of Home writing contest opens January 5 for students in Grades 4, 5, and 6. Three national grand prize winners will each earn a $30,000 grant for their local Habitat for Humanity, along with an iPad and a pizza party for their class. Nine runners-up will direct $10,000 to their local Habitat and receive the same student prizes.
Habitat for Humanity Grey Bruce is encouraging students in the Bluewater and Bruce-Grey Catholic school boards to take part. Every entry generates a $10 donation to Habitat Grey Bruce, supporting affordable home builds in the region. Submissions are accepted online at meaningofhome.ca from January 5th to February 20th, 2026, with winners announced in May. Teachers and parents can contact Habitat Grey Bruce for classroom resources and more information.
