One person charged after standoff near Arthur

Wellington County OPP arrested and charged one person following a standoff that led to a shelter-in-place advisory just outside of Arthur.

According to police, on September 19 at 11:45 p.m., officers were called to a residence on Highway 6 just north of Arthur regarding a barricaded person.

As a precaution, police put a shelter-in-place order out for residents in the area before emergency crews could get to the scene.

The Wellington County OPP, West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), West Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine, Crisis Negotiators, and Paramedic Services attended the scene.

The individual eventually came out and surrendered to police. The person was taken to a local hospital to be assessed. Out of concern for their well-being, the individual's identity will not be released.

Charges against the person include possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats, possession of loaded prohibited or resisted firearm, and other weapons-related offences.

Once the individual was released from hospital, they were held in custody, pending a bail hearing.
