Owen Sound's Tyler Beckett wins CCMA's Fiddle Player of the Year

Owen Sound's Tyler Beckett said he was left speechless after winning Fiddle Player of the Year at the Canadian Country Music Awards in Kelowna Saturday Night.

Beckett was unable to attend the ceremony, but said his sister Linsey picked up the award for him.

"I was at home, and I was working away in the basement. I kind of lost time and that the Gala was happening at that time, and missed a few text messages and FaceTime calls," Beckett explained. "It was kind of a blur of a moment, and it's starting to sink in now, it's feeling pretty special, for sure."

He added Linsey gave a better acceptance speech off the cuff Saturday night on his behalf, then he could have with a month of practice.

Beckett gave credit to The Jade Eagleson Band and the Dan Davidson Band for getting him where he is. And he said the support of his family and his sister Linsey, is key to his success.

"The Jade Eagleson gig right now that we're both doing that came through Linsey, and it was something that she couldn't do at the time, so I stepped in and did it, and now we're both playing it," he continued. "That gig, especially playing with Jade, has elevated us onto stages that we never thought would be possible."

He added that all of the nominees are inspiring and doing amazing things.
