Owen Sound is set to begin a major infrastructure project that will enhance wastewater service reliability for residents.
On Wednesday, September 10, rehabilitation work is scheduled to begin at the 27th Street West Sanitary Pump Station, located at 200 27th Street West. The project will modernize aging infrastructure and replace outdated equipment with state-of-the-art technology designed to deliver long-term service improvements.
Key upgrades include a new duplex pump control panel with automated monitoring, backup systems, and remote communication features. The system will allow City crews to respond more quickly to any issues, reducing the risk of service disruptions.
Enhanced safety measures, such as improved ventilation and secure access, will also be added to support safe maintenance and long-term facility management.
To ensure residents experience no interruptions, bypass pumping systems will be in place throughout construction.
The investment is expected to provide better overflow protection, improved efficiency in wastewater management, and stronger protection for local waterways. It will also mean fewer emergency repairs and less disruption to neighbourhoods.
“The project represents a significant investment in Owen Sound's critical infrastructure and reflects the City's ongoing commitment to maintaining and upgrading municipal utilities to serve the growing needs of the community,” the City said in its announcement.
Residents will be notified in advance of any temporary construction-related activities that may affect the immediate area.
Earlier this summer, Owen Sound Council awarded the project tender to Quattro Contracting Inc., the lowest compliant bid received for $285,234.43, including the nonrefundable allocation of HST. The completion date is set for the end of 2025.
