Major expansions completed at two Perth County schools

There will be more students than ever before welcomed to two schools in Perth County when classes resume on Wednesday.

Major expansions at Listowel Eastdale Public School and Milverton Elementary School were completed in time for the first day of school. The provincial government invested a combined $11.6 million into the projects to add 98 new students spaces and 88 new childcare spaces in Listowel and Milverton.

“The completion of these expansions at two of our rural schools is very welcomed news for our local communities and families,” said Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae. “As Listowel and Milverton continue to grow, it is important that our schools and childcare centres meet the growing demand for childcare and student spaces.”

Since 2018, the Ontario government has approved or supported the development of approximately 300 school-related projects including child care, with more than 100 of those given the green light actively under construction.

Forty-nine of the 88 new childcare spaces are at Listowel Eastdale Public, while the remaining 39 are at Milverton Elementary. The Listowel school received all 98 of the new student spaces.

Avon Maitland District School Board Director of Education Graham Shantz offered his thanks to the province and to municipal partners in North Perth and Perth East who contributed to the expansions.
