Rockwood Terrace redevelopment reaches major milestone

Construction of Grey County’s largest-ever capital project, the new Rockwood Terrace long-term care home, has reached a significant milestone. Just over a year since ground was broken, work on the 116,000-square-foot facility has officially surpassed the 25 per cent completion mark.

The redevelopment of Rockwood Terrace will expand capacity by 28 beds, allowing 128 residents to call the home their own. The design prioritizes resident experience, featuring private and semi-private rooms, barrier-free pathways, intimate dining spaces, spa areas, lounges, and outdoor courtyards and gardens. Infection prevention and control will also be enhanced through improved building design and updated facilities.

“Seeing a building of this size leap off out of council reports and into reality is absolutely incredible,” said Grey County Warden Andrea Matrosovs. “Redeveloping Rockwood shows Grey County’s commitment to providing public long-term care services in southern Grey County for decades to come.”

Much of the exterior masonry and roofing is complete, with structural construction now finished. Inside, electrical and utility work is well advanced, and framing is underway. The project remains both on schedule and on budget, with completion expected in 2027.

Staff are already planning for the transition to the new home, with an operational readiness team meeting regularly to ensure a smooth move for residents, families, and long-term care staff. Transition planning is expected to begin in earnest in 2026.

The redevelopment is being led by Melloul-Blamey Construction Ltd., Kasian Architecture, and Colliers Project Leaders. Grey County is encouraging the public to follow progress updates online at grey.ca/Rockwood-Redevelopment, where a new video provides an inside look at the construction site.
