All operating provincial parks will issue free day passes on Friday as an effort to get Ontarians outside and enjoying nature.
Ontario Parks is celebrating the global 'Healthy Parks Healthy People' movement by opening park gates and inviting people in free of charge.
Participating parks include Wheatley Provincial Park, Rondeau Provincial Park, Pinery Provincial Park, Point Farms Provincial Park, Inverhuron Provincial Park, MacGregor Point Provincial Park, Sauble Falls Provincial Park, and Craigleith Provincial Park. A full list and map of Ontario's provincial parks can be found here.
'Healthy Parks Healthy People' is a worldwide movement that recognizes the link between human health and healthy ecosystems.
It's believed that the more time people spend in natural environments, the greater the health benefits.
The movement was launched in Australia in 2000. Ontario Parks joined in 2013 and launched its first initiatives in 2015. This included a promotional campaign, special events for park visitors, and encouraging new research.
Visitors can enjoy the parks from opening until 10 p.m. on Friday. Equipment and services not included with a day pass, such as camping facilities, will still cost the normal fee.
