Owen Sound invites community to help shape future growth

Residents are invited to have their say in shaping the future of Owen Sound at a community Open House on Thursday, July 17, 2025. The event will run from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

The Open House will focus on important updates to the City’s Official Plan, Zoning Bylaw, and the introduction of new Urban Design Guidelines - key planning documents that guide how the community grows and develops.

The informal drop-in format will allow attendees to review draft versions of the documents, speak directly with City staff and consultants from MHBC Planning, and provide feedback on the proposed changes.

"These updates are necessary to align local policies with recent provincial planning changes and to prepare and guide growth and development,“ said City officials in a media release. “Whether you are interested in housing, neighbourhood character, commercial and employment uses, or open space, citizens are encouraged to get involved in the process and attend the Open House."

All background information and the draft documents are available on the City’s online engagement hub at OurCity.OwenSound.ca/Planning.

More public engagement opportunities, including a formal Public Meeting, will be announced in the coming weeks.
