Harrison Park Pool set to open for the season Friday

A long-standing summer tradition in Owen Sound returns this week, as the Harrison Park Pool opens for the season on Friday, June 27 at 1 p.m.

Carrying on a nearly century-old legacy, the outdoor heated pool — nestled among the trees near Weavers’ Creek in Harrison Park — will welcome swimmers daily until August 31.

Operated by the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce under an agreement with the City of Owen Sound, the facility offers public swims, lessons, private rentals, and season passes.

This summer, residents can also take advantage of several free swim opportunities, made possible by generous community sponsors. Free swims are scheduled on Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., courtesy of Miller Waste Systems.

Additional free swims are offered on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. thanks to the support of other local sponsors.

The fully accessible facility features professional lifeguards on duty, an accessible change room, and ramp access into the pool. The pool was renovated in 2018.

Swimming has been a part of Harrison Park’s story since 1933, originally starting as a swimming pond before the construction of the current pool in 1978. The pool underwent a major renovation in 2018, enhancing it as a leisure swimming destination for the community.

For pool schedules, programming details, and booking information, visit OwenSound.ca/PublicSwimming or contact the YMCA of Owen Sound Grey Bruce.

Free swims are available three times a week, sponsored by local businesses and organizations.
