Police prepping for Canada Day traffic safety blitz

The South Bruce OPP are joining many other police detachments in running a Canada Day week-long traffic safety blitz.

A media release from South Bruce OPP shares that the annual campaign will commence Friday June 27, and conclude on Sunday July 6.

Officers will be focused on a few key areas when it comes to road safety. That includes seatbelt checks, looking for distracted or impaired driving and speeding or stunt driving.

Also, marine and ATV patrols will be deployed to encourage safe boating and riding and to ensure proper safety equipment is being used, including helmets and lifejackets.

Not wearing a seatbelt can result in a fine of $240 and two demerit points. Driving while using your phone can result in a fine of $615 and 3-6 demerit points with increasing licence suspensions upon conviction.
